Four members of Microsoft Research have been named to the inaugural list of Fellows of the American Mathematical Society (AMS), announced in November.
Among the 1,474 inaugural Fellows of the AMS:
- Jennifer Chayes, a Microsoft distinguished scientist and managing director of Microsoft Research New England and Microsoft Research New York City.
- Michael Freedman, a Microsoft technical fellow and managing director of Microsoft Research’s Station Q lab.
- Yuval Peres, principal researcher at Microsoft Research Redmond and manager of that lab’s Theory Group.
- Madhu Sudan, principal researcher at Microsoft Research New England.
Upon learning of the award, Chayes made comments certainly shared by her colleagues newly anointed with AMS Fellowship.
“I’m thrilled that several of my Microsoft Research colleagues and I have been recognized in the inaugural class of AMS Fellows,” she said. “Many deep questions in mathematics have originated in computer science and technology, and, conversely, mathematics increasingly contributes to breakthroughs in technology.”
The AMS Fellowships provide recognition to members who have made outstanding contributions to the creation, exposition, advancement, communication, and utilization of mathematics.
Microsoft Research certainly values the contributions of its researchers named to the inaugural class of AMS Fellows. Congratulations to all!
