In Windows Server 2012 R2, the SMB 1.0 features can be removed. They are still installed by default in case you are still using SMB 1.0 in conjunction with older SMB clients, such as Windows XP or Windows Server 2003. But if such clients are not in your environment, removing SMB 1.0 can increase security and potentially reduce downtime due to patching.
