TNWiki Article Spotlight - Azure Mobile Services Custom API

Hello and welcome everybody to our TNWiki Article Spotlight on Tuesday.

Azure has become a product where everything changes within one month. We already had a lot of great announcements this year, but today I want to go back to a service which some of you already have forgotten it exists: Azure Mobile Services.

Introduced as a backend-as-a-service for mobile solutions it has much more to offer as you might think at a first glance. I had the luck to play with it for Microsoft shortly after it was introduced and after this point it seemed that nothing new was introduced to this platform. Really? No, I would not agree at this one. Especially the support for .NET backends was a huge step. As someone who lives between the worlds (Node.js and .NET) I'm happy that Node.js gets some attention at the TechNet Wiki. Most .NET developers had a problem with getting a grasp at Node.js as a backend language, but I think that it is a nice technology to write backend functionality. Lucky me, chilberto is the same opinion. He has written a nice article about developing a custom API based on Azure Mobile Services and what you can do with Node.js in the backend.

JavaScript at the backend (and as a language) seems to be a little bit strange, but trust me: it is worth to have a look at and this article will give you an idea how powerful it is.
