After applying an update to the Analysis Services Server running PowerPivot, you also need to upgrade the sppowerpivot.msi on the SharePoint Server running PowerPivot and re-run the PowerPivot Configuration Tool. You need these two (SQL and SharePoint) to have the same build. For example, if you apply the Cumulative update package 7 for SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 1 to the Analysis Services Server running PowerPivot, the build will be 11.0.3393.0
If you don't upgrade the sppowerpivot.msi on SharePoint and run the PowerPivot Configuration Tool, it will indeed run, but you will see the build is 11.0.3000.0 (SP1) and there will be no detection of new PowerPivot solution files (no match) :
You might ask, "Well, how do I locate the version of my sppowerpivot.msi?" To do this, browse (on the SharePoint machine running PowerPivot) to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\PowerPivotTools\SPAddinConfiguration\Bin\ and right click on PowerPivotSPAddinConfiguration.exe and choose Details.
Now the challenging question arises, "How do I update the sppowerpivot.msi?" To answer that question, you need answer the question, "How did you originally install the sppowerpivot.msi on the SharePoint Server. Did you apply it using the SQL Installation Center or did you apply it by browsing to online?"
There is a chance you have no idea how you installed it. Maybe you hired a consultant or maybe the that employee is no longer with the company. If you have the SQL Server Installation Center installed on that SharePoint machine and you see PowerPivot Configuration Tool under Tools, then you can go ahead and apply the CU on to that SharePoint Server.
If you don't, then you most likely applied the sppowerpivot.msi from our download center.
Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012 SP1 PowerPivot® for Microsoft® SharePoint®

If you downloaded the sppowerpivot.msi from the above link, things are going to get tricky if you need to update it for a CU (these are available for Service Packs, but not individual CUs). To update the sppowerpivot.msi, you are going to need to download the CU and extract the it.
To do this, download the CU. In this example we will use:
Cumulative update package 7 for SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 1
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2772858
You will then need to request the hotfix. An email will be sent to you allowing you to download the hotfix.
The hotfix will look like this:
You then need to extract the hotfix, which will look like this:
If you place the above executable on the root of C:, you can run this parameter from the command line: SQLServer2012-KB2894115-x64.exe /extract:C:\temp\sql
...to extract the contents.
..this will place them in C:\temp\sql. You will want to browse to C:\Temp\sql\1033_enu_lp\x64\setup, where you will see the sppowerpivot.msi
You can now click on it to update PowerPivot for SharePoint. If you are on a lower version (11.0.3000.0) than SQL Server 2012 SP1 CU7 (11.0.3393.0), a lower version will be detected.
Follow the prompts to upgrade PowerPivot.
You will need to reboot the SharePoint Server:
After you do this, you can see the version of PowerPivot on SharePoint has been upgraded to 11.0.3393.0.
Now you can re-run the PowerPivot Configuration Tool:
You will see the updated version (11.0.3393.0).
Lastly, the Tool will indeed detect the new Features, Services, Applications, and Solutions that were laid down by the upgrade.
After this continue using the Tool and your install should be standardized between SQL and SharePoint.
