Site Content and Structure is broken… or is it ?

A quick one from the field.

You may occasionally run into the behaviour that the site content and structure will display an unknown error and a correlation ID on access.

If you see something like this in the ULS logs :

System.ArgumentException: Invalid value.
The value cannot be an empty string.  Parameter name: stringId    at
Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.CommonUtilities.ConfirmNotNullOrEmptyString(String value, String parameterName)     at
Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Internal.WebControls.ToolbarViewSelectionDropdown.AddMenuItem(String itemId, ListItem itemTitleDesc, String itemOnClickScript, Boolean checkMenuItem)  at
Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Internal.WebControls.ToolbarViewSelectionDropdown.CreateChildControls()

it might be a good idea to check if your list at /weburl/Reports List (Content And Structure Reports list) doesn’t have items that lack the Title or Description.

you will say : “Wait ! this is soooooo old !”

Yes. It still applies.
