On June 28, the Skype team laid out its plans for the road ahead with mobile devices, focusing on a modern design that puts conversations first, focuses on quality and performance, and delivers a common set of experiences across multiple platforms and devices.

The team isn’t wasting any time delivering on its goals. Later the same day they released Skype 4.9 for iPhone and iPad. And today, the team delivered the all-new Skype for Android 4.0. The newest changes stand to make a lot of people happy, as Skype for Android is now installed on over 100 million phones worldwide.

Skype for Android is completely redesigned to be faster and easier – especially when you want to fire off a quick message. Similar to the Windows Phone 8 app experience, when you first open the Android app you’ll see a clean new look, with your recent conversations front and center. Just tap on one to catch up and reply. When you tap or swipe over to the Contacts or Favorites tabs, tapping on a person brings you right into a messaging window so you can start a conversation. From there, video calls, voice calls and everything else are just one tap away.

Skype for Android 4.0 is rebuilt from the ground up to be faster and more reliable. And this release is just the beginning, with more updates coming in the year ahead.
