There are huge opportunities for virtualisation in the next two years, it has been suggested.

According to virtualisation management vendor Veeam, adoption of the technology is set to further accelerate in the next 12 to 24 months.

Don Williams, regional sales director at the firm, told ARN that virtualisation and cloud computing are increasingly being seen as the norm.

He said that around seven in ten businesses have virtualised their server infrastructure.

And this figure could go as high as 95 per cent over the next year or so, Mr Williams suggested.

He noted that many more companies are contemplating virtualisation investments, and scheduling these for the coming two years.

Last week, VMware claimed that building a virtualisation environment, and including a few hosts in a cluster, gives firms a range of options.

The company told TNW that embracing virtualisation brings "a brave new world" to people's fingertips.

VMware claimed that virtualisation functions extremely well as a business continuity solutions, as in the event of an outage, files and documents are accessible via remote machines.
