News of the 41-megapixel Lumia 1020, available today, has snap-happy smartphone users salivating. Perhaps out of fairness, Nokia gave Windows Phone 8 app developers something to whet their appetite, as well, with the public beta of their packed imaging software development kit (SDK).
The Nokia Imaging SDK provides 52 easy-to-use mobile imaging filters, including standard filters like grayscale, cartoon and auto-levels, as well as filters to crop, rotate, add custom frames and combine multiple images. The kit makes it a breeze for developers to take their apps to a new level by applying some really cool filters, for example, “Sad Hipster,” “Car Show,” or even “80s Pop Music” effects.
There’s more. The Nokia Imaging SDK is pretty remarkable in and of itself, but it gets even better. First, it’s available for all Windows Phones on the market. Second, it manages memory extremely well, which can be a major pain point in mobile imaging.
