  • Rapid Cyberattack Assessment Workshop-SoW Example-v1.0.docx
Ein Beispiel Statement of Work zur Durchführung des Assessments

Vorgehen

Call to action:

Rapid Cyberattack Assessment (Tool)

Changing Surface Hub’s Start Menu

In the January 17, 2018 update for Windows 10, it was announced that Surface Hub now supports the customization of its Start menu layout. This is manageable via MDM. There's a detailed article on how to do it, but let me take you step by step through the process.

This is the Default Start Menu on the Hub:

Before we start - a few things worth mentioning:

  • You cannot pin Windows Desktop apps or shortcuts to the Start Menu. They simply don't work on the Hub.
  • You can definitely pin website shortcuts to the start menu.
  • Surface Hub can be configured with a 6x6 tile grid.
  • The default Start Menu apps (Calendar, Skype, Whiteboard and "Connect") cannot be changed.

Follow the above guideline for a successful end-user experience.

The table above demonstrates how tiles can be displayed on the Hub. Use this template to design the Start Menu on your Hub. Although the xml shows 8 columns of tiles (GroupCellWidth=8), only columns 0-5 are visible, so plan accordingly.

How does 6 tiles look like?
When we plan for tiling, we look at the smallest form of tiles. So if you were looking at a standard Windows 10 PC, the six on the top right of the following image is how it would look like:

How easy is it to create it?

Easy enough;

If you're familiar with Windows 10 Start Menu customization, go ahead and edit the default xml for Surface Hub, you can find it here.
If you're looking for an easier way to complete this task - you can create a custom Start Menu on any Windows 10 device and 'copy' the xml from it. Here are the steps to do it:

Create a new account on a Windows 10 machine

It can be any account - the idea is that you can remove the existing default Strat Menu and create one just for Surface Hub.
So if your new Start Menu looks like this:

Start by removing all the tiles until you get a clean Start Menu with only the apps list:

Then pin the first app you want on your new start menu. I chose Microsoft Edge, and other important apps like the xbox app.

You can pin as many apps as you want and sort them in any design you want, as long as they fit into the 6x6 structure. You can resize, leave spaces and change the appearance to your liking.
Download apps you'll use on the Hub and pin then to the Start Menu you're creating so they'll show up when you import it.
In this case, I downloaded great apps like "A Surface Hub Tour" and "SH Setup Helper":

You can also create tiles of Internet websites, like you company's internal SharePoint website, or other useful resources. I added a shortcut to this blog, simply by clicking the three dots on the top right corner of the Edge browser and choosing "Pin this page to Start":

And there it is, along with the other apps that I've added:

Note: If you don't have your desired already installed on the Hubs, you can deploy them using Intune. Follow the steps in my previous post to do so.

Now, export the new Start Menu layout so you can import it later to Intune.
From an elevated PowerShell window, run the following command:

Export-StartLayout -Path C:YourPathStart.xml

Then, using a text editor, open the .xml file and edit the following:

Both <LayoutOptions StartTileGroupCellWidth="6" /> (line 2)  and <defaultlayout:StartLayout GroupCellWidth="6"> (line 5) are set to "6". Change both to "8" and save the changes.

Additionally, if you pinned a web page tile to the Start Menu, you'll notice the DisplayName field may be empty:

Enter the name of the website (Could be any name you choose) between the quotation marks and save the changes. Next:

Create a Custom Policy in Intune

  • Log on to https://portal.azure.com and go to Microsoft Intune.
  • In Intune, go to Device Configuration, Profiles, Create Profile.
  • Name the new profile Start Menu CSP (Or anything that makes sense to you...), for Platform choose "Windows 10 and later", in "Profile type" choose "Custom".
  • Click "Configure" under "Settings to add the CSP:
  • Under "Name" give it the name of you choice - remember you can deploy several Start Menus to different Hub groups based on the usage profiles, so make sure you also fill in the description (I didn't, I know <facepalm>).
  • In the "OMA-URI" field, enter the following string: ./User/Vendor/MSFT/Policy/Config/Start/StartLayout
  • In "Data type", choose "String (XML file)".
  • Browse for the location of the Start.xml file you created and edited earlier, then click OK and save the configuration profile.

Assign the configuration profile to the appropriate groups and wait for it to sync. You new Start Menu will shortly appear:

Questions or comments - I'd love to hear your thoughts; Are you trying to configure your Surface Hubs and need assistance? let me know in the comments below!

Windows

Windows Server 2016

[Windows Server 2012 R2 以前]
=============================

[Windows Server 2016]
=====================

[Storage Space Direct]

Welcome to this week's TNWiki Article Spotlight.

Microsoft is regularly releasing new features for Microsoft Azure and most of the time these get released out as preview services. One of such service is DevOps Projects. Wondering what that is?

chilberto has published an excellent article with the title "Azure DevOps Project - a review of the preview" and we couldn't help ourselves but feature it as the article for this weeks' TNWiki Article Spotlight. And I should mention this article has won the Gold medal in TechNet Guru Awards - December, 2017 under Microsoft Azure Category.

chilberto has given a very interesting title for the article and I just loved it. In the article, he has started off with by giving a brief description to what Azure DevOps Project really is. Then he has moved into a very detailed step by step guide filled with images so anyone who is even new to Microsoft Azure can understand and follow through.

You can read the full article at the following link:

Azure DevOps Project - a review of the preview

Have a nice week ahead!

Happy Coding!

Entity Dashboards in the new Dynamics 365 UI

Entity dashboards

If you spin up a trial  of our Dynamics 365 Spring 2017 release (aka v9) you'll also get the Sales Hub app. In this app you can work with dashboards as you always could, but you will also find a new type of dashboard - the entity dashboard (very similar to the dashboards you might come to know from the Interactive Service Hub - now called the Customer Service Hub). You can access the Sales Hub from you Dynamics 365 Home (https://home.dynamics.com)

The entity dashboards are dashboards specific to entities. These are available for account, contact, lead, opportunity, quote and invoice entities.

To see an entity dashboard, go to the list of records for the entity, eg My Open Opportunities, and then on the command bar, click the More menu (...) and then click Open Dashboard to open the Opportunities Dashboard

In the Opportunities Dashboard you'll see a set of visual filters at the top, and four streams at the lower half of the screen. If you click the visual filters, the streams will update accordingly
You can click the Qualified doughnut to see only opportunities in the the qualified pipeline phase

These new entity dashboards is as very interactive experience that I personally like very much - I hope you will too.

February 2018 CU for SharePoint 2013 product family is available for download

The product group released the February 2018 Cumulative Update for the SharePoint 2013 product family.

For February 2018 CU we have full server packages (also known as Uber packages). No other CU is required to fully patch SharePoint.

As this is a common question: Yes, February 2018 CU includes all fixes from February 2018 PU.

ATTENTION:

Be aware that all Updates for SharePoint 2013 require SharePoint Server 2013 SP1 to be installed first.

Please also have a look at the article that discusses how to properly patch a SharePoint 2013 farm which has Search enabled (see below).

Previous releases of the SharePoint Server 2013 cumulative update included both the executable and the .CAB file in the same self-extracting executable download. Because of the file size, the SharePoint Server 2013 package has been divided into several separate downloads. One contains the executable file, while the others contain the CAB file. All are necessary and must be placed in the same folder to successfully install the update. All are available by clicking the same Hotfix Download Available link in the KB article for the release.

This CU includes all SharePoint 2013 fixes (including all SharePoint 2013 security fixes) released since SP1. The CU does not include SP1. You need to install SP1 before installing this CU.

The KB articles for February 2018 CU should be available at the following locations in a couple of hours:

  • KB 4011693 - SharePoint Foundation 2013 February 2018 CU
  • KB 4011696 - SharePoint Server 2013 February 2018 CU
  • KB 4011694 - Project Server 2013 February 2018 CU
  • There was no fix released for Office Web Apps Server 2013 in February 2018 CU

The Full Server Packages for February 2018 CU are available through the following links:

Important: If your farm has been on a patch level lower than July 2015 CU ensure to read the following blog post:
https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/stefan_gossner/2015/07/15/important-psconfig-is-mandatory-for-july-2015-cu-for-sharepoint-2013/

Be aware that the SharePoint Server 2013 CU contains the SharePoint Foundation 2013 CU. And the Project Server 2013 CU also contains the SharePoint Server 2013 CU and SharePoint Foundation 2013 CU.

The product group released the February 2018 Cumulative Update for SharePoint Server 2016 product family. Be aware that only a language independent fix was released with February 2018 CU. The latest language dependent fix was released with January 2018 CU.

This CU also includes Feature Pack 1 which was released with December 2016 CU and Feature Pack 2 which was released with September 2017 CU.

The KB articles for February 2018 CU are available at the following location:

  • KB 4011680 - February 2018 Update for SharePoint Server 2016 (language independent) - This is also a security update!
  • There was no language dependent fix released for SharePoint 2016 in February.
  • There was no fix released for Office Online Server 2016 in February 2018

The download for February 2018 CU is available through the following link:

Important: It is required to install both fixes (language dependent and independent) to fully patch a SharePoint server as each SharePoint installation comes with a language independent component and a language dependent component. If additional language packs are added later (only) the language dependent fix has to be applied again.

It is irrelevant which language you pick on the drop down in download center. Even the language dependent fixes are all in the same package for all languages.

After installing the fixes you need to run the SharePoint 2016 Products Configuration Wizard on each machine in the farm. If you prefer to run the command line version psconfig.exe ensure to have a look here for the correct options.

SharePoint 2016 February 2018 CU Build Numbers:

Language Independent fix: 16.0.4654.1000

To understand the different version numbers please have a look at my article which explains the different SharePoint build numbers.

You can use the SharePoint Server 2016 Patch Build Numbers Powershell Module to identify the patch level of all SharePoint components.

Dear All,

It's Wednesday and you all know today's blog post will be related TechNet Wiki life.

In today’s blog, I would like to give several tips for new members who are starting to contribute to TechNet Wiki, and to bring a short guide to other members, who are considering contributing in the future.

Firstly, we would like to welcome all our new members who have recently started contributing to TechNet Wiki. I say "We" instead of "I" as we more of a family than community. New and long-term contributors have equal rights in helping shape the direction of the community. TechNet Wiki is very friendly community to all the members. If you are new to TechNet wiki and not sure about how to start contributing, don't hesitate to ask for any kind of help or support from any of our TechNet Wiki members.

Where can we get support for TechNet Wiki related questions ?

If you are new to any community, and want to share your articles, then you should clearly know what is happening in the community. Plus, what are the rules and how you should follow the rules as existing members are doing. Like any contribution platform, TechNet Wiki has some rules. Don't think the rules are hard. Its general rules like all communities.  Once you share your first article you will come to know everything, since the others will help you with feedback that will guide you.

Below I discuss the Do's and Don'ts in the TechNet Wiki. Many new members will ask how and from where to get support for posting an article in TechNet Wiki. As mentioned, TechNet Wiki is a friendly community and you'll find all the existing members are always happy to help and support you to publish your articles in TechNet Wiki. The surprise thing is you can get 24/7 help and support related to your questions, on TechNet Wiki. A great thing is that our members are from different places and in different time zones. If you ask for any kind of help or question, you will get immediate answers from many of our existing members. Some great social places from where you can get support from are:

The TechNet Wiki Facebook Group is the best option to get quick help and support. If you are a new member and looking forward to contribute your first article, then I recommend you to first join our TechNet Wiki Facebook Group, then can ask all your questions and tips from our existing members. I strongly recommend this, as TechNet Wiki has lots of happening, which new members are not aware about. For example, I have seen many new members, as they start contributing. They do not add their article entry to the "world famous" TechNet Wiki monthly Guru awards. Even when I started my first publication on TechNet Wiki, I was not aware about the Guru awards. For the first two months, I didn't add my article entry for guru awards. I can say as I have missed 2 Gold/Silver or Bronze awards from TechNet Wiki.

Before we start this I would like to share my few blog post ,which will give you all more clear Idea about TechNet Wiki.

I recommend you to first read this Wiki Life: How to contribute Article in TechNet Wiki  blog post as this has more detailed explanation about how to contribute your article in TechNet Wiki. This blog post has complete guidelines for all the new members who have just started and looking forward to starting their first contribution on TechNet Wiki.

Members "CAN DO"s in TechNet Wiki

  1. Can publish any kind of Microsoft Technology related articles.(Tip's -> Wiki Life: Tips for Picking A Microsoft Technology and Topic for your article)
  2. In TechNet Wiki all your articles are shared articles. Once you publish an article in TechNet Wiki, any TechNet Wiki member can edit to improve your article. Always use "We,Our's" instead of "I,Me" in your articles (third person instead of first person).
  3. Always write a Quality of article with good Format (Tip's -> Wiki Life: keep 2 things in mind before Publish Articles)
  4. Always add Table of Contents  (Tip's -> Wiki life: The Importance of TOC )
  5. Always share your own content and strictly avoid issues related to Pirated and Plagiarized.(See this -> Wiki: Policies that Govern the Wiki
  6. Strictly upload all the Images to your TechNet Wiki article and use only the uploaded images in your article!
  7. Always upload Source Code to TechNet Gallery or MSDN and use that link in your TechNet article for download.
  8. Always add your article entry to TechNet Wiki monthly Guru awards and win a Guru medal as Gold/Silver or Bronze in your article Category. You can add multiple article in multiple category and won multiple awards, Note that as you need to add your article entry to each month Guru competition so always remember to add your article entry for the present month competition, Here is the link where you can find each month Guru Competition and add your article for present month TechNet Guru Contributions.
  9. If you won the medal then you can always add your Medal counts to TechNet Wiki from TechNet Guru: The Most Frequent Award Winners
  10. Share your published article on Social media and always share to our TechNet Wiki Facebook Group, for getting feedback from other members.  (Tip's -> Wiki life: The Importance of Social Media)

Other Activities you CAN DO in TechNet Wiki

  1. If you find any Spam or Pirated/Plagiarized article, don't hesitate to mark a complaint on that article, even the member is contributing for long or recently started. (Tip's - Wiki Life: How to Report Spam and Pirated/Plagiarized Content)
  2. Feel free to edit any members articles that you feel as need grammatical improvement, have formatting issues, or that improves the quality of article, or to add content to improve the article.
  3. If you have suggestions for TechNet Wiki, then feel free to share on TechNet Wiki Forum
  4. If you have any issues or questions related to TechNet Wiki feel free to post in TechNet Wiki Facebook Group and surely you will get response from any of our members to help you.

One Important kind request to all our TechNet Wiki family members, If you are new and not aware about our others members and who's who in TechNet Wiki, it’s good to always add your kind and soft words to solve your any kind of issues in TechNet Wiki. If you share your post in our  TechNet Wiki Facebook Group or TechNet Wiki Forum always respect other members and ask your questions or issues with kind and soft words. Here in TechNet Wiki all the members will be always happy to help others, and you can get all your issues solved with all other members support. As I told you in TechNet Wiki all the members have equal rights whether he/she is new or long-time contributor and here we respect each other. All our motive is to share good quality of Microsoft Technology related articles for readers, and have fun.

Members should Do Not in TechNet Wiki

  1. Strictly avoid Spam/Pirated and Plagiarized article. This can lead you to ban your account from TechNet Wiki and the MSDN in general. (read More -> Wiki: Governance and Guidelines Portal)
  2. Don't add your personal blog or any kind of external links to your TechNet Wiki articles.
  3. Don't use external images in your article (external means not in the TechNet Wiki system), and always upload your article's Images to TechNet Wiki.
  4. Don't share source code from external link's, always use  TechNet Gallery or MSDN  for uploading source code and use the link for download in your article.
  5. Don't ever edit other members article for points!

I have seen few members as they just keep on editing all members articles without meaning and they do just for points and to be placed in top contribution list. Frankly speaking those members cannot survive in the long run. If they do it for points, other members can easily identify them and their reputation in community might go down. Your edit with other members article should be genuine and it should be done only for grammatical improvement, format issues, improving the quality of an article or to add content to improve the article. Always keep in mind as the original other who publish article in our TechNet Wiki as he/she might be spend hours and sleepless night to write a good quality of articles and if someone edit his/her article without meaning then how painful they feel on that. We should respect others contributions and always do edit as if it was required. If you want to gain points and be placed in top list then do it by posting article and reach the top level that will always leads you in right direction.

Note that here few members are exception and we call them as TechNet Wiki Council members, and don't compare them with our normal members. Our TechNet Wiki Council members do edit other member's articles, only for the need. Replacing Security Token Service (STS) of the on-premises SharePoint Server fails

$

Background
==========
When a trust relationship is needed between two SharePoint Server farms, or when a farm is configured to participate in a hybrid environment, you must use a common STS certificate between the trust members. We recommend that you buy a new STS certificate from a public Certificate Authority (CA). This gives you the highest level of certificate security, and reduces the possibility that a self-signed certificate will have integration issues with other applications and services. You can use a self-signed certificate for test or pilot environments.

Issue
====
You are following steps given in the article and receive below error when using SHA256 algorithm based certificate(Self-signed or CA).
"The timer job completed, but failed on one or more machines in the farm"

Command used:
$pfxPath = "<path to replacement certificate (.pfx file)>"
$pfxPass = "<certificate password>"
$stsCertificate = New-Object System.Security.Cryptography.X509Certificates.X509Certificate2 $pfxPath, $pfxPass, 20
Set-SPSecurityTokenServiceConfig -ImportSigningCertificate $stsCertificate

Error in ULS:

Cause:
=====
The certificate created by CA or Self-Signed is created without the KEYSPECS set to "AT_KEYEXCHANGE".

The KeySpec property identifies how a key generated or retrieved by Microsoft CryptoAPI (CAPI), from a Microsoft legacy Cryptographic Storage Provider (CSP), can be used.
A KeySpec value of 1, or AT_KEYEXCHANGE, can be used for signing and encryption. A value of 2, or AT_SIGNATURE, is only used for signing.
The most common KeySpec mis-configuration is using a value of 2 for a certificate other than the token signing certificate.
For certificates whose keys were generated using Cryptography Next Generation (CNG) providers, there is no concept of key specification, and the KeySpec value will always be zero.

To see a certificates value you can use the certutil command line tool.
The following is an example: This will dump the certificate information to the screen
certutil –v –store my

Solution:
=======
You would require to get a new CA certificate or self-signed certificate which is created with KeySpec value of 1, or AT_KEYEXCHANGE. This is required because we cannot update the new certificate using "Set-SPSecurityTokenServiceConfig" command. The command does not have option to import the certificate and set the KeySpec value to 1.

For other applications: Changing the KeySpec value does not require the certificate to be re-generated or re-issued by the Certificate Authority. The KeySpec can be changed by re-importing the complete certificate and private key from a PFX file into the certificate store using the steps below:

  1. Export the certificate including private key to a PFX file.
  2. Delete the existing certificate
  3. Open an elevated PowerShell command prompt and import the PFX file using the cmdlet syntax below, specifying the AT_KEYEXCHANGE value:
    C:>certutil –importpfx certfile.pfx AT_KEYEXCHANGE
  4. Restart the service.

You can also generate the a self-signed certificate using below command:

New-SelfSignedCertificate -DnsName "dns.domain.com" -KeySpec "1" -HashAlgorithm "SHA256" -CertStoreLocation "cert:LocalMachineMy"
